Police Ask Public to Help Find Suspected Credit Card Thief

The suspect allegedly stole two credit cards and made fraudulent purchases of more than $13,000.

Millburn police officers are seeking the public's help in finding a suspect for two related thefts of credit cards and subsequent purchases made with them. A number of the incidents occured close to the Springfield border.

The purchases are in excess of $13,000, and the credit card thefts took place on Tuesday and Wednesday in Short Hills.

A Maplewood resident reported that someone entered his parked car and stole credit cards, which were then used at several locations. Police said the suspect purchased a $5,500 watch at one of the locations. The victim said his car was parked in the lot at 750 Route 124 between 12:45 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Police said it's believed his car keys were removed from his locker while he was at Can Do Fitness.

A second victim reported that $162 in cash and a credit card were stolen from his locker at the spa at the Hilton Short Hills on Tuesday. Police believe the theft happened between 11:10-11:30 a.m. The victim told police he learned someone had used his credit card to make purchases of more than $8,000 at various stores.

Police said surveillance videos captured the suspect at Walter Bauman's, which is located at 734 Route 124, the Hilton and numerous stores at the Mall at Short Hills. Police provided photos captured from the video to the press.

Police described the suspect as a white man who is 25-30 years old with close cropped brown hair. He is approximately five foot, 10 inches tall with medium build. Detectives believe the suspect may have ties to Bergen County.

One image shows the suspect in a grey sweatshirt in Walter Bauman's on Wednesday, police said. A second photo shows the suspect entering Burberry's at the mall on Tuesday. Police said the suspect made fraudulent credit card purchases in excess of $13,000.
