Police: Motel Disturbance Leads to Arrest for Heroin Possession

Police say man unsuccessfully tried to give a false identity.

On June 8, Springfield police responded to a report of someone yelling and banging on a door at the Colonial Motel on route 22. Motel guests and employees reportedly fingered Kenneth Lindwall as the source of the commotion. Lindwall, 41, of Bellevile reportedly told police he and his girlfriend, 25-year-old Kearny resident Vanessa Shaarawy were having trouble getting into the room, but that everything was OK by then.

Police say they entered the motel room to speak with Shaarawy to see if domestic violence had occurred. While there was no evidence of that, the room reportedly smelled of marijuana smoke and contained glassine envelopes police suspected of containing Heroin.

That's when Lindwall reportedly launched into an exquisitely sloppy false identity scheme that unraveled due to Lindwall's inability to perform simple subtraction. Police say he gave his name as John and his birth year as 1971.

According to the report, when asked for his age, Lindwall said 42, evidently  not realizing the date of birth he originally gave would make him 38 years old.

Noticing that there were papers containing the first name Kenny, Springfield police officer Anthony Reimer reportedly yelled "Hey Kenny." According to the police report, Lindwall turned to face Officer Reimer and said "what's up." Lindwall then stated "oh, wait, I'm not Kenny, I'm John...okay I'm Kenny, I knew I shouldn't have tried to lie to you."

Lindwall and Shaarawy were both charged with possession of marijuana, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia. Lindwall was also charged with hindering his own apprehension.
