Springfield Doctor Who Sexually Assaulted Patient Sentenced to 364 Days in Jail

Dr. James Mauti, a specialist in internal and sports medicine, was arrested on August 17, 2007 following a investigation between the Prosecutor's Office and Springfield Police Department

Following his conviction on 3rd Degree Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact and 4th Degree Criminal Sexual Contact charges, a Springfield physician was sentenced to jail on Friday morning announced Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.

Dr. James Mauti, a specialist in internal and sports medicine, was arrested on August 17, 2007 following a investigation between the Prosecutor’s Office and Springfield Police Department that revealed Mauti assaulted a then-32-year-old former patient after he sedated her for a medical procedure in November, 2006, said Union County Assistant Prosecutor Melissa Spagnoli, who prosecuted the case.

The victim was also a former employee of Mauti. Mauti was convicted in December 2012 following a lengthy trial.

On Friday morning, Mauti was sentenced to 364 days in jail, must register under Megan’s Law, and following his release from prison, will be placed on parole supervision for life.
