Springfield PD Adds New Officer and Promotes Sergeant

Families and friends come out to see officers get sworn in to new positions.

The welcomed a new member to their ranks and promoted a veteran of the force to command staff at the Tuesday, August 28 Springfield Township Committee meeting. 

Marco Vaz was sworn in as a patrolman. Vaz, a former police officer for Washington Township, served a tour of duty in Iraq as part of his four years in the Marines. 

"He's going to be a great addition to the team," Springfield Police Chief John Cook said.

Steven Studlack, a fixture on the Springfield Police force since 1995, was promoted to Sergeant. Cook listed the initiatives spearheaded by Studlack during his time on the force, including acting as the CPR coordinator and the liaison to the counter terrorism task force. Studlack became a plain clothes officer in 2008 and joined the detective bureau in 2010. 

Cook said that Studlack would assist with training new detectives and would be a vital part of his officer team.

"My leadership is only accomplished through my command staff," Cook said.
