Springfield Receives 2 Inflatable Boats Through Grant

Boats are expected to improve Township's water rescue capabilities.

Springfield's Office of Emergency Management has received two 14-foot inflatable boats through a NJ Emergency Management match grant, according to Springfield Fire Department's Facebook page

The boats, with 9.9 horsepower motors and trailers, can hold six to eight people each.

According to the fire department, during 2011's Tropical Storm Irene, the department used its inflatable boat, some private boats and a Union County Police boat to rescue 69 adults, 11 children, and 9 animals.

The new boats will improve the Township's water rescue capabilities, should the need arise, the department stated on its page.
