Teens Kick Open Door of Westfield Business in Burglary Attempt, Police Say

Two Springfield 18-year-olds arrested after fleeing the store when the security alarm sounded, according to report.

Two teens were arrested after kicking in the front door of a Westfield business, stealing a pack of cigarettes and leaving the scene, according to the Westfield Police Department.

Patrick Culleton and Jonathan Murphy, both 18 and of Springfield, were arrested on July 14 and charged with burglary, attempted burglary, theft and criminal mischief.

According to police, the teens attempted to enter the Elm Street business minutes before they actually got inside, but were thwarted by the alarm system. When the two entered, the alarm was activated once again and they fled the scene in a car that was stopped a short distance from the scene, police said.

Culleton and Murphy were transported to headquarters, processed and held in lieu of bail.
