Bruce Bergen Appears to be Running for Union County Freeholder

Former Springfield Township Attorney Bruce Bergen wouldn’t comment on whether he is running for Union County Freeholder. His social media network is a different matter, however.

Last week, the website Union County Watchdog reported that Bergen would be "appointed" a Freeholder following the retirement of Deborah Scanlon. 

There has not yet been an official announcement about Bergen's candidacy. When contacted at his Cranford law office, Bergen declined to comment.

Nonetheless, the Union County Democratic Committee’s Facebook page lists him as one of three Democrats vying to be elected Freeholder in 2012. 

A Facebook post from March 3 reads “the Union County Democratic Committee has nominated the team of Bruce Bergen, of Springfield, Freeholder Mohamed Jalloh, of Roselle, and Freeholder Chairman Alexander Mirabella, of Fanwood, for Freeholder in 2012.” He is also featured in a photo with his fellow candidates and Union County Democratic Chairman Charlotte DeFilippo.

Bergen, a Springfield resident and partner in the Cranford law firm of Krevsky, Silber & Bergen, has been Springfield Township Attorney for for 17 of the past 19 years. In 2010 he served as attorney to the Springfield Board of Health, as he previously did in 1987. In 1993 he was the Springfield Rent Leveling Board attorney. Bergen has also been Special Counsel to the Township of Hillside.
