Community Pool Gets Thumbs Up From Health Department

Health Department responds to recent concerns about cleanliness.

After being contacted about issues and concerns regarding the cleanliness of the Springfield Community Pool, the Madison Health Department has issued the facility a "Satisfactory Inspection Report."

In a letter sent Monday to Michael Tennaro and pool members, health officer Lisa A. Gulla, MAE, MPH, CAS stated that the Health Department has visited the pool multiple times and noted that the most recent inspection took place on Tuesday, July 23.

On that day, Springfield’s Registered Environmental Health Inspector, Tamica Trotman, spent two hours at the facility and issued a Satisfactory Inspection Report, Gulla wrote.

"We also receive weekly lab reports for both the main pool and the kiddy pool and any abnormalities in levels are checked on by the inspector as well," she continued. "I hope this information is helpful and puts at ease any concerns or rumors that have been disseminated."

Pool members brought concerns about bathroom conditions to Springfield Township committee members at Monday's work session. At Tuesday's meeting, Committeeman Ziad Andrew Shehady said he'd like to see a board of trustees, similar to the library's, established. As he explained it, the board would be comprised of volunteers who met year-round to consider pool improvements.

In closing, Gulla wrote, "Should any future situations arise, please feel free to contact my office." The Madison Health Department can be reached at 973-593-3079.
