Downtown Redevelopment Open House Set for Tuesday

Township seeks input on parking, flooding, green spaces and more.

Have an opinion on what you'd like Morris Avenue to look like in the coming years? 

The Township of Springfield is inviting residents to an open house workshop to discuss the vision for the Morris Avenue Corridor. Together North Jersey, the organization that provided the Township with a $90,000 grant to assist with redevelopment, will be conducting a four-month analysis to see how Springfield can improve the infrastructure of the Township, particularly Morris Avenue. The meeting will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Sarah Bailey Civic Center. 

Questions up for discussion include:

How do we create a safer and more walkable downtown?

How do we improve transit access and amenities?

What should mixed use infill and redevelopment look like in the Study Area?

Station 1: Meet & Greet

Review the Morris Avenue Vision and Mobility Plan Goals and Process

Familiarize yourself with the Study Area, which includes Morris Avenue Corridor between I-78 and Maple Ave area and parcels along Caldwell Place, Center Street, Mountain Ave, and Church Mall.

The Study Area includes properties on the north and south sides of Morris Avenue from the I-78 overpass to the west to the intersection with Springfield Avenue/Meisel Avenue/Main Street to the east. The Study Area encompasses the 64-lot designated Redevelopment Area, as well as, some additional publically-owned parcels along Caldwell Place, Center Street, Mountain Avenue, and Church Mall.

"We need Springfield's residents' and businesses' input and ideas so that they can be a part of the changes to come for redevelopment to happen," Mike Scalera, chairman of the Springfield Business Improvement District, said.
