Hurricane-Related Construction Fees Waived for One Year

Committee debated length of waiver.

There was no question that fees for post Irene construction projects would be waived. Officials were in agreement about the need to extend them for as long as people needed to rebuild their homes.

But Committee member Richard Huber did not vote for the proposal to waive the fees for six months; he wanted to waive the fees for a year.

Committee member Jerrry Fernandez dissented, sort of, saying he wanted the fees to be waived for a year in the first place. The ordinance was quickly amended to waive the fees for a year, and the vote was unanimous: yes.
