Letter to the Editor: The Case for Keffer

Former Township Mayors throw their support behind Hugh Keffer

Dear Fellow Springfield Residents:

Springfield needs to re-elect Mayor Hugh Keffer. Having served as Mayors of Springfield, we have been able to observe the progress and leadership that Hugh has brought to Springfield during his three years on the Township Committee and in particular this past year as Mayor.

In less than a year, Mayor Keffer has eliminated the unfair sewer tax enacted in 2010, has appointed a new Police Chief and has restored our police department to local control. He has instituted open government in Springfield by doubling the number of public meetings, establishing television coverage of meetings and returning civility and responsiveness to those meetings. Further, Mayor Keffer has taken the first real steps towards actually creating a new multi-sports field, by contracting an engineering firm and applying to the NJ DEP for required permits.

He has expanded shared services with other towns to reducetownship operating costs without reducing services, and appointed three newpolice officers and a new firefighter, increasing safety in town.

With all these things in mind, we encourage you to continue the progress in Springfield, by voting Column A on Nov. 8, Election Day for Mayor Hugh Keffer. His clearheaded, mature leadership is exactly what Springfield needs.
