Senior Center Renovations to be Completed by November, Town Administrator Says

Appliances have been delivered and furniture has been selected for the senior center.

Concerned residents asked the Springfield Township Committee about the status of the renovations and construction at the Chisholm Community Center Tuesday afternoon at the committee's regular meeting.

Township Administrator Anthony Cancro said painting has been completed, walls are up and appliances have been delivered but have not yet been installed. Furniture had been selected and once ordered, should arrive within four weeks, he said.

Cancro estimated that by the time the floors and appliances are installed and the furniture delivered, the center should be ready for use in November.

A resident asked the committee if it would be possible to have a stove installed as Sunday spaghetti dinners are held at the facility. In August, residents were advised that due fire code, a new stove would require the installation of an expensive and expansive exhaust system. Mayor David Amlen told residents its cost is estimated to be between $25,000 and $40,000, a price range beyond the township's budget.

In lieu of a the new stove, Cancro said in August that a convection oven, which will cost about $1,300, had been ordered.

The mayor said he recognizes the current set up is not convenient, but added that he hoped the center would be able to acquire the fire suppression system next year.
