Springfield Backs Booker in U.S. Senate Race

Booker drew 58 percent of Springfielder's votes.

Newark Mayor Corey Booker won election to the U.S. Senate Wednesday, defeating Steve Lonegan in the race to replace the late Sen. Frank Lautenberg.

Springfield voters supported Booker. In unofficial results, the new U.S. senator topped his opponent, 1,603 to 1,144 votes. Independent challengers drew five votes or less across all districts.
