Springfield Employee Recognition: Barbara Matthews

Matthews described as face of the town and praised for her humor and personality.

Eight Springfield Employees were recognized for their service to the Township at a morning “Mugging event” this month.

Township Administrator Anthony Cancro gave eight employees with superlative service records mugs in recognition of their on-the-job achievements. Before presenting the mugs, provided by Investor’s Savings Bank, Cancro spotlighted the how each employee was an asset to the Township, and thanked them each for “making a difference.” 

For Cancro, Barbara Matthews is the face of Springfield.

“When you come to town hall through the front door, usually the first window people gravitate to is the administration office window,” Cancro said. “And the first person they usually interact with is Barbara Matthews.”

He praised Matthews for her many skills, including proof reading, answering questions and dealing with the occasional difficult person. Cancro described her as a utility employee with an expansive skill set and a reliable work ethic. Just as important to her coworkers, though, is her sense of personality, particularly her sense of humor.

“I kid Barbara and blame her for the rainy, gloomy days,” Cancro said. “And she accepts the blame graciously.”
