Springfield Honors Those Who Serve

Large crowd gathered to pay tribute to all veterans.

Springfielders of all ages attended a ceremony honoring those who serve our country Monday morning in honor of Veterans Day at Veterans Memorial Park.

The Jonathan Dayton High School marching band performed 'The Star Spangled Banner' and 'Hymn to the Fallen,' while students from James Caldwell Elementary School shared the meaning behind America's symbols of freedom. Saint James the Apostle students read a poem that paid tribute to the courage and sacrifices made by all those who have serve.

Committeeman Ziad Andrew Shehady, a United States Army officer, read the names of Springfield residents who were killed while serving in World War I, II and the Vietnam War.

"We thank them for their service," Shehady said.
