Springfield's State Aid Cut By Just Over $450,000

State aid is $1,753,357.

Springfield will receive about $450,000 less from New Jersey in aid than in the last year according to an announcement by the state late Thursday afternoon.

According to a document released by the state's Division of Community Affairs, Springfield is slated to receive $1,753,357, down from the $2,204,095 Springfield received in state aid in 2009. The drop, $450,737, is about 20.45 percent less than last year, which is in the loss range of what most Union County towns are experiencing.

The drop in aid is part of a $359 million cut in aid to municipalities across the state. The announcement comes as part of Gov. Chris Christie's state budget announcement, which has proposed steep cuts to aid programs across the board. Earlier this week, the state announced cuts in aid to school districts, including a drop in all aid to Springfield's schools.
