Township Committee Member Rich Huber Releases Message on Recreation

Huber marks beginning of summer.

Springfield Township Committee member Rich Huber looks to the start of the summer in a message focusing on warm weather recreation. Among the highlights are his announcement of a new youth wiffle ball league and the opening of the pool this weekend.

Full message follows.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

As we head into the unofficial start of summer, I’m happy to tell you about the progress of our recreation department. A lot has been happening at the pool, which opens this weekend. First we’ve been making the entire facility ADA compliant by installing a handicapped elevator into the pool as well as adding a special water wheel chair. The pool house has been painted and new windows have been installed. Finally, we’ve made significant upgrades at the snack bar and, back by popular demand, the same vendor from last year will running the food services.

In other areas, I am happy to announce the formation of a Wiffle Ball League for three and four year olds. This new program is proving very popular with kids and parents. We are also constantly working to upgrade our local parks. In the next few weeks the play equipment at Ruby field will be moved to the front of the park to encourage more use of this equipment. Similar changes are being made at Roessner Field. Here the basketball court is due to get an upgrade and at the request and expense of the Springfield Junior Baseball League, the scoreboard is being moved so it can be seen from the stands.

I’d like to wish everyone a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend. For more information on any of these activities or facilities I’ve mentioned above contact the Recreation Department at (973) 912-2227.
