Dayton gets 62-54 win over Scotch Plains

The Dayton Bulldogs earned a 62-54 win over the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Raiders as both teams prepare for the Union County Tournament.

Jared Clatyon finished with a game-high 21 points to help lead Dayton to a 62-54 victory over Scotch Plains in Springfield on Thursday night. Clayton was one of three scorers in double figures for the Bulldogs who showed off a balanced attack that allowed them to control the game throughout much of the back and forth second half.

Dayton came out of the locker room with a 7-0 run to take an eight point lead early in the third. Scotch Plains spent much of the period clawing back with a run of their own, riding a 14-6 run to send the game into the fourth tied at 41.

Not to be outdone by their third quarter stretch, Dayton began the fourth quarter on a 9-0 run that appeared to give the home team some breathing room. The Raiders had other plans however, as they once again clawed their way back thanks to some timely scoring from Xavier Noel-Brooks (12 points) and Thomas Bonacum. Bonacum converted for four three-point baskets on the way to matching Clayton's game-high 21 points.

The Bulldogs were once again able to withstand their opponents best punch and ultimately held on for the 62-54 victory.
