Dayton Students Win State-Wide Competition

Dayton Students win state-wide competition at NJPSA

Last November, five students from Dayton—Josh Trinker, Lindsey Gaon, Allison Weber, Emma McGrath and I—were selected to attend the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association's (NJPSA) Youth Leadership Institute.  The program  aims to teach students how to become leaders in their community.

When we returned to school, were were asked to create a project that promoted leadership and social capital in the community. For our project, the Dayton team held a Youth Leadership Institute at Dayton on April 10. Middle school teachers chose ten students from each grade for this Institute. Thirty students attended.

Lindsey, Josh, Allie, Emma, and I went to the competition in Monroe township and presented along with eight other schools. We explained our project and give a short presentation about it using powerpoint and an iMovie, that can be found at the link below.

After listening to all of the presentations, the judges announced that Jonathan Dayton High School had won the competition. Now Lindsey, Josh, Allie, Emma and I are going to be recognized at the NJPSA's Fall Conference in October in front of teachers and administrators from throughout New Jersey.
