A Seat for Rosa: A Text and Musical Performance

 

When Rosa Parks decided she wouldn't move from her seat on a bus in 1955, the civil rights movement began. 

On Sunday, Feb. 20, at 2 p.m.  at the Springfield Free Public Library, this performance chronicles that day through Mrs. Parks' impassioned account and the incidents that led up to it.

This musical program by Yearning to Learn also reveals significant events in the struggle for constitutional rights and human dignity for all Americans.

Alicia Washington is the President and founder of the non-profit Yearning to Learn Program, which produces residencies in creative learning concepts and educational productions.

She has produced Arts in Education programming for over 15 years. She created and taught the highly praised "Learning MY Way Program" which uses art infused strategies with at risk students to promote the development of life, academic and social skills.  She has produced original educational programming for New Jersey Symphony Hall, the U.S. Army, the United Way, YMCA and many more.
