The Gristmill is hosting timelines of military camp life. This event will take place this weekend beginning Friday, July 13 - 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. with a candlelight tour of camp by re-enactors; Saturday, July 14 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. with a candlelight tour of camp; Sunday, July 15 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Visitors can relive history through various timelines of military camp life! They can view the changes in the military eras which include the French and Indian War and the Civil War, as well as the activities that happened outside of the battlefield. Visitors will meet Abe Lincoln while he gets his tintype photo taken and hear stories from re-enactors.
There will be demonstrations of drills, campfires, gear, utilities, arifacts and much more.
Cooper Gristmill is open April through October. In April, May and June, it is open Saturdays only from 10 a.m. -.5 p.m. starting April 14. During July and August it is open Wednesdays through Sundays: on weekdays and Saturdays from 1 a.m. - .5 p.m., and on Sundays from 12 Noon to 5 p.m. In September and October, it is open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sundays from 12 Noon to 5 p.m.
Last tour begins at 3:30 p.m. The special event fee which covers the gristmill tour and the timeline program is $3 for adults, $2 for seniors (65+), and $1 for children ages 4-16. Children under 4 are FREE. The Cooper Gristmill is located in Black River County Park on County Route #513 (old Rt. 24) in Chester Township 1.3 miles west of the Rt. 206 intersection.
