Four Candidates Running for BOE

Two incumbents and two challengers face off for open seats.

Four candidates are vying for three open seats on the Springfield Board of Education in the 2011 election. 

Two, Steven Wolcott and Jeff Strumpf, are incumbents. The others, Scott D. Samansky and Steven M. Friedman, are challengers. 

Samansky, an attorney, is a former member of Springfield's recreation Committee and the Director of Umpires for the Springfield Junior Baseball League.

Friedman, an International Operations Manager at Wells Fargo, is a fixture both at School board and Township Committee meetings, and often addresses both governing bodies with comments. 

Portfolio Manager Wolcott joined the board in 2009 to fulfill the remainder of departed Board member Dan Circelli's term.

Strumpf, a Marketing Manager at Stryker Orthopaedics, has served on the school board since 2008.
