Letter to the Editor: Buck A Book A Success

I am happy to report that our district-wide Buck-a-Book Reading Incentive Program has gotten off to a great start.  Please continue to encourage your students to read every day and to record each chapter they read on their reading logs (to keep our older students on a level playing field with our youngest students at Walton, each chapter that your student reads will count as one book for purposes of Buck-a-Book). All of the money raised through class sponsorships will be divided among the five PTA/PTSOs based on each school's population.  

The money raised for Dayton will be divided among the four graduating classes and earmarked for each class's Project Graduation. Remember, you can sponsor you own student's reading by sending a check in with the reading log on Monday made payable to the All For One Fund with a donation of $1 for each chapter your student read that week. These individual donations will go to your student's school and will not be divided up.

Currently, over 80 percent of the classrooms in the district have sponsoring businesses or families that have agreed to contribute up to $250 each based on the students' reading during the month of March.

Please help us to complete our sponsorship roster by filling out the attached sponsorship form and returning it to me as soon as possible.  

Even if your business or family cannot commit to the maximum contribution of $250, you can sponsor half of a class, thereby capping your donation at $125.  We will pair up businesses and families that agree to sponsor half of a class to ensure that all classes have full sponsorship.  

In addition to being listed on vinyl banners outside all five school buildings, each class sponsor will get a 1/4 page ad in our electronic sponsorship directory that will be provided to all Springfield public school families (sponsors of half a class will receive 1/8 of a page).
