Completed nomination forms should by returned by Friday, Jan. 10.

Know an outstanding teacher who deserves some recognition? Nominations for Teacher of the Year are being accepted through Jan. 10.

The New Jersey Teacher of the Year Program is administered by the New Jersey Department of Education as part of a national campaign sponsored by the Council of Chief State School Officers.

All public school tenure track classroom teachers, pre-kindergarten through grade 12, whose primary function is classroom instruction and who will continue classroom teaching in the coming year are eligible for nomination.

Teachers must exhibit the following qualities:

             • be an exceptionally dedicated, knowledgeable and skilled teacher;
             • be able to inspire students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn
             • have the respect and admiration of students, parents and colleagues
             • be poised, articulate, and possess the energy to withstand a taxing schedule of appearances, as well as excellent communication skills.

After teachers are nominated, they will be asked if they would like to participate in what is considered a rigorous process by completing an application to be reviewed by a committee. Each district then selects a 'District Teacher of the Year' from all applications submitted. The chosen applicant is then submitted to the office of the county superintendent, and from among these candidates, a County Teacher of the Year is chosen and is then forwarded to the State Department of Education to be considered in the selection of the State Teacher of the Year.

The State Teacher of the Year is then entered for consideration in the selection of the National Teacher of the Year.

Please return completed form (see the attached pdf document) to the Personnel Office in JDHS c/o Ellyn Atherton by Friday, Jan. 10. All eligible nominees will be contacted and asked if they wish to complete the application packet. A selection committee will review the completed application packets and then choose the District Teacher of the Year.
