Steve Wolcott Is New School Board Member

Wolcott will serve out remainder of Dan Circelli's term.

Steve Wolcott, the chairperson of the Springfield Education Foundation, was selected by the school board to serve out the remainder of the four-month term left by departing Board member Dan Circelli. Wolcott will join the board at their next meeting on Jan. 11.

Wolcott was chosen for the position over five other candidates following a question and answer session at the Board's meeting on Monday, Dec. 7.

"I was very impressed by the entire field of candidates," Board member Brian Kass said. "They made this decision very difficult."

Wolcott has lived in Springfield since 2001 and has two children in the school district. In addition to serving on a number of school PTAs, Wolcott chairs the Springfield Education Foundation, a non-profit organization that raises money for school and student needs. In addition to an annual scholarship award to selected Jonathan Dayton High School students, the Foundation regularly provides mini grants to Springfield teachers to help enhance the curriculum.

Wolcott said he was happy with the board's decision and that the abbreviated time he would serve on the board would not be a problem.

"I think four months is a good period of time to serve," Wolcott said, adding that he was "looking forward to getting his feet wet and getting right to work."
