Wolcott Sworn Into BOE

At the Jan. 11 Board of Education Meeting, Steve Wolcott became the board's newest member.

At their Jan. 11 meeting, Springfield's Board of Education officially welcomed their newest member, Steve Wolcott. Wolcott, the chairperson of the Springfield Education Foundation, was selected by the school board to serve out the remainder of the four-month term left by departing Board member Dan Circelli at their previous meeting.

Wolcott was chosen for the position over five other candidates following a question and answer session at the Board's meeting on Monday, Dec. 7.

Wolcott has lived in Springfield since 2001 and has two children in the school district. In addition to serving on a number of school PTAs, Wolcott chairs the Springfield Education Foundation, a non-profit organization that raises money for school and student needs. In addition to an annual scholarship award to selected Jonathan Dayton High School students, the Foundation regularly provides mini grants to Springfield teachers to help enhance the curriculum.

Board president Jacqueline Shanes, who was not present at the Jan 11 meeting due to illness, said in an email that she looked forward to working with Wolcott on the board.
