Anna Lies is the Athlete of the Week

In our new column, we celebrate athletic achievement with Dayton students.

Junior guard, 5-5, No. 15 Anna Lies, one of the three Dayton Girls Basketball captains, along with Emily MacDonnell and Jen Kuczynski.

And she is having a great start to her junior campaign.

Through nine games, Lies leads the team in rebounds, assists and steals and is averaging 13.9 points, just behind Kuczynski, who is averaging 14.0 per game. Dayton (6-3) enters play this week riding a season-high four-game winning streak.

In those four games, Lies averaged 12.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 8.5 assists and 3.3 steals.

"Anna is doing a great job for us this year and is really filling up the stat sheet," said Dayton head coach Dave Rennie, "She's really helped make our offense go."Lies feels the team is on the right track after starting the season 2-3.

"I think we're on our way," said Lies. "We're getting a lot of confidence with each game we play."
