The Dayton Bulldogs' 2012 Varsity Soccer team was successful this past weekend as they won the Soccer Palace of West Orange's U-16 indoor tournament.
The team, comprised of players that will form the nucleus of Dayton's 2012 Varsity team was formed by Tyler Citrin, a co-captain of the squad. This was the first time in school history that Dayton entered a contingent in a tournament during the off-season.
Dayton blew through the first two games defeating the Wharton MH Knights (6-3) and the Staten Island Knights (3-0). Scoring was a balanced attack as goals were scored by all members of the team (Citrin, Yosuf Salomon, Kenny Rocha, Andew Shanes, Zachary Wolcott, Luke Heleno, Jason Barreira, & Asmar Johnson.) Holding the fort & filling in for Dayton in goal was Timmy Golden, a member of the 2011 Gaudineer squad.

The Bulldogs were finally tested in the third match as they tied the Ridgefield Park New Revolution (2-2). Andrew Shanes was goaltender for the game.
The final was an immediate rematch versus the New Revolution. Dayton let a (4-2) lead slip away in the final (7:00) of the match as the game went to PKs. Both teams made two of their three shots (Dayton's was Citrin & Rocha). The PKs went to four one-shot sudden deaths thanks to Golden, as Citrin scored the clincher in the 4th round.
