Dayton's Finest Student-Athletes In Their Own Words

Up next: Reserve basketball guard Corey Kaunfer

As the school year is officially behind us and the 2011 graduating class heads off into the real world, let’s take a look at what is over the horizon for some of JDHS’s finest student-athletes – in their own words.

This week’s installment features reserve basketball point guard Corey Kaunfer:

What’s it like now that you’re officially done being a JDHS Bulldog?
Now that I’m done being a bulldog, I can brag to everyone how I was a bulldog in high school. The hard work, the countless hours in the weight room, and the grueling practices paid off.

What was your best memory, team-wise, from your senior season?

Best memory of my senior season was chilling in the Rutgers locker room an hour before game time [State Playoff Championship] with my team for the last time.

What was your best personal memory or achievement during your senior season?
My best personal memory from this season was scoring my first points on varsity against Johnson.

What will you miss most about donning the blue and orange? I will miss the loud fan support and knowing all my teammates had my back whether it was on the court or a personal problem in life.

Who was the most influential person in your life, on or off the playing field?
My parents have been the most influential people in my life because I've watched for 18 years how hard they have worked for everything they/we have.

What do you have planned for the summer?

I am going to be a counselor at the YMHA in Greenlane for the third year in a row. I specialized on teaching sports to the kids there.

If you’re going to college, will you still play your respective sport or is this it for you athletically?

I am going to Drexel University and I still plan on playing basketball in rec leagues there. Also I plan on working out there in a routine. I am also going to try to be the Drexel Basketball team manager.

If you are college-bound, what will you plan to study in college? If not college-bound what are your plans in the workforce?
I plan on studying Sports Management and either business or marketing. I dream to be a sports agent when I am older. I also want to go to Law School after I graduate.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years I see myself graduating college because I am doing the five year Co-Op program at Drexel.
