Dayton's Finest Student-Athletes: In Their Own Words

Softball shortstop Rebecca Frank

As the school year is officially behind us and the 2011 graduating class heads off into the real world, let’s take a look at what is on the horizon for some of JDHS’s finest student-athletes – in their own words.

This week’s installment features softball shortstop Rebecca Frank.

What’s it like now that you’re officially done being a JDHS Bulldog?

Crazy. The past four years have been amazing and I was always proud to be a Bulldog. It's so weird that it's all over and we're all going to be heading off in new directions, as official alumnus now.

What was your best memory from your senior season?
I don't have one specific memory. The whole season was great. We made it to states, played hard all season, and really just became a team this season. The seniors got so close and I’m really going to miss being with them next year.

What was your best personal memory or achievement during your senior season?
Slapping the ball. For the past two seasons I’ve been trying to slap the ball, and I did, but I finally was able to master it better and get some real hits.

What will you miss most about donning the blue and orange?
Well lucky for me I'm going to continue wearing orange and blue at Syracuse for the next four years but it will feel completely different from JDHS blue and orange. I think I can say I’m pretty school spirited so I’ll really miss going to all the games of every team and I’ll definitely be around next year to watch games.

Who was the most influential person in your life -- on or off the playing field?
Definitely my parents. They never ever pushed me to do anything I didn't want to do but guided me in all the right directions. They taught me so much of what I know and made me into the person I am today.

What do you have planned for the summer?
I am currently working at Tyler Hill Camp. It is a sleep away camp in Pennsylvania and I’m a counselor. It's my tenth summer there.

If you’re going to college will you still play your respective sport or is this it for you athletically?
At college I'm not actually playing but I will 100% play intramurals for soccer and softball and probably some other fun sports.

If you are college-bound what will you plan to study? If not college-bound what are your plans in the workforce.
I am attending Syracuse University in the fall, majoring in Elementary Education. Hopefully one day I'll be teaching math.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

In five years I’m hoping to have a job at a school teaching math for 7th or 8th grade.
