Become a Stream Assessment Volunteer

On Saturday, April 30th at 10:30 A.M., the Springfield Free Public Library will host Angela Gorczyca, AmeriCorps Watershed Ambassador, speaking for the Union County Department of Parks & Community Renewal. During the course of the program we will learn about water issues in N.J., including watershed management and how the quality of your life connects to the watershed. Through this, we will develop a sense of stewardship on the health of the watershed.  We will learn how to assess the health of brooks and streams, then go to a local stream and collect insects and crustaceans for analysis. This will provide useful information to the NJDEP Division of Watershed Management.  After this, you will receive a certificate identifying you as an official DEP stream assessor.

This program will he held rain or shine.  Wear your garden shoes or boots.  Please register at the Circulation Desk, call the number below, or e-mail to supermahos@sfplnj.org.

The Springfield Free Public Library is located at 66 Mountain Avenue, Springfield. For additional information, call 973-376-4930.
