Register Now for Springfield Recreation Youth Basketball

Registration deadline is Oct. 31.

The following information is available via the Springfield Basketball Association's Facebook page: 

The Springfield Recreation Basketball Program consists of both travel and recreational teams, along with weekly clinics for our youngest players. Programs are offered for all children from Pre-K through 8th grade. Leagues are divided into boys only and girls only teams, and registration is open to all boys and girls in grades 3-8. Special weekly clinics will be held for children in Pre-K, K, 1st and 2nd grades to teach skills, bring awareness, and to have fun through the game of basketball. Travel programs are offered in grades 5-8.

League Play: A maximum of 60 players (6 teams) will comprise each league play, and will include*:
• Boys 3rd/4th Grades ● Boys 5th/6th Grades ● Boys 7th/8th Grades
• Girls 3rd/4th/5th Grades ● Girls 6th/7th/8th Grades *May be adjusted based on actual registration

For League Play, there will be a player evaluation session (tentatively November 9-10), to ensure that teams are comprised of players of equal age, skill and height. Practices will start by December. The season will kick off in January, and conclude at the end of March.

Clinic Play: A maximum of 30 players will be allowed in each Clinic Play group. Clinic play will include:

  • Pre-K (Boys & Girls combined) * ● Kindergarten (Boys & Girls combined) **

  • Boys 1st/2nd Grades(game play will be introduced) ● Girls 1st/2nd Grades (game play will be introduced)

Travel Play: Travels teams require tryouts and are open for all to try out, and are separated boys/girls. Boys (Minutemen) have teams from grades 4-8. Girls (Nettes) may have teams grades 5-8. Acceptance onto these elite teams is based upon coach’s discretion. If a player does not make thet eam, the fees will be refunded. Travel players may also play Rec for no additional fee based on space availability (non-travel players get priority)

Registration Fees:

  • Recreation Program (team/clinic play):
    o $50 payable to “Township of Springfield”
    o $20 payable to “Springfield Basketball Association”. **Clinic players are not required to pay $20 SBA

  • Travel: Minutemen: Please provide separate checks to the following: o $95 payable to Springfield Basketball Association
    o $50 payable to Township of Springfield

  • Travel: Nettes: Please provide separate checks to the following: o $95 payable to Springfield Basketball Association
    o $50 payable to Township of Springfield

    Additional clinics may be offered throughout the year

Registrations after this date will be accepted on a rolling basis, based on availability. Registrations beyond 60 children for league play will be placed on waiting list, and considered should opportunities become available. Should you have missed the deadline or have any questions or need more Information regarding the Youth Basketball Program, please contact Danielle McLeer in the Rec Department at (973) 912- 2226. Once the program begins, no refunds will be issued.

Children that plan to play on school or travel teams, or plan to participate in other sports or activities are expected to make and keep their commitment to their recreation basketball teams. Coaches will be instructed to use their discretion in playing those kids who don’t show up regularly for practices.
