Soccer Club of Springfield Picnic & Pool Party

1700+ Residents Came to Support The Springfield Soccer Club

The Annual Springfield Soccer Club Fundraiser was held at the Springfield Community Pool on June 18.

The fundraiser has been held at different venues over the years, but they couldn't have picked a better location than the municipal pool this year for the record 1720 residents expected to turn out.

"We were hoping for a warm spring evening and with the signup list growing, it was a no-brainer to combine a pinic and pool party," said Forys.

Talk about a good call (and cooperation from the weatherman-in-the-sky), all in attendance were obviously having a great time. There was plenty of food and drink, a rocking DJ Dad, and of course a relaxing time in the pool on a hot spring evening.

Sales of Springfield Soccer beach towels, t-shirts, sweats and an enormous silent auction, helped raise funds for the club said Joe Nagy, the club's treasurer.

Other activities included a dunk tank, where the junior soccer team took turns, and delight, in sending their coach to the bottom of the sea; well, tank anyway. If the pool wasn't enough to cool down the hordes of ball-kicking kids, the SFD provided a cold shower, pumping water into the sky from their ladder truck, as  kids ran screaming toward them, as much to see the engine as to participate in what appeared to a ritual "rain dance."

With this year's succesful party now over , perhaps next year, Forys and crew will consider holding it at a World Cup venue. Maybe there'll be some team "scouts" there.
