Springfield Cuts Ribbon on 'Field of Dreams'

Officials said the finished product turned out better than they could have ever imagined.

After a false start at the hands of Mother Nature last Thursday evening, the Springfield community finally had a chance to celebrate the ribbon cutting at its new athletic complex at Jonathan Dayton High School.

Amid blue skies and a light breeze, spectators came out to witness what Dayton Principal Elizabeth Cresci called "a milestone" moment for the school and the entire town.

Years in the making and with a cost of $3 million, many referred to the complex as a "field of dreams."

"I know that this facility will become part of the fabric that binds together this wonderful town of Springfield," Cresci said.

School Superintendent Michael Davino thanked all the members of the school community, the Township of Springfield and parents who worked together for "the common goal" of bringing the "dream to fruition."

"The 'Dogs finally have a home to be proud of," Board of Education President Steven Wolcott said.

Following the ceremony, the Bulldogs took on the Bound Brook Crusaders at 7 p.m. in their second outing in their new home.
