Springfield Ice Skaters to Hit the Ice in Eastern Synchronized Skating Competition in Pennsylvania

Two Florence Gaudineer students will compete.

The Precisely Right Synchronized Skating Teams are practicing for the Eastern Synchronized Skating Championships in Hershey, PA from Jan. 25-28.

The Morristown based club has three teams competing in Hershey, each skating to a different score. The Preliminary team, which includes  students Marissa Steiner, 11, and Jessica Kaplan, 11, skates to Elvis. The Intermediate team uses music from the movie “National Treasure” for their routine.

The club’s most skilled and experience skaters are on the Junior team, which performs two programs at each competition. The Junior team skates to Josh Groban in the short program and to selections from the movie “Sherlock Holmes” for their long program.

All the teams have experienced success in the regular season this year. The Preliminary team earned the pewter medal at the Cape Cod Classic. The Intermediate team also received the pewter medal from their performance at the Terry Conners Competition. The Juniors captured two silvers and two pewter medals so far this regular season.

Their coaches were very impressed with the teams’ performances and are looking forward to seeing their improvement at the Eastern Sectional Championships.
Each year, approximately 35 colleges participate in U.S. Figure Skating’s synchronized skating sectional championshionship in the open collegiate, collegiate and senior levels.

Synchronized skating is a team sport in which 8-20 skaters perform together. The routines are rated for teamwork, speed, intricate formations and challenging step sequences.
