Springfield Swim Team set for Division 3 Championships

Meet time scheduled for 8:30 a.m. at Springfield Community Pool

With all of this heat Springfield has been experiencing during the past week, it's going to get even hotter on Monday morning at the Springfield Community pool.

Why, you ask?

It's the concluding meet of the season for the Springfield Swim Team as they take part in the 2011 Division 3 Championships, starting at 8:30 a.m.

"We are coming off another great dual meet season. The divisional championships really get to showcase the progress we have made this summer," said head coach Karen Bocian, who is in her 12th year at the helm and is assisted by her brother, Matt, who also serves as manager of the pool and Kim Baldwin. "There are always a lot of fast swims that surprise me at this meet every year and I'm looking forward to watching the swimmers shine. I know their hard work will pay off."

The meet consists of all four teams Springfield has swam against this season (Cedar Grove, Florham Park, Madison and West Orange), where the squad posted a 5-3 record in regular season dual meets.

Monday, all 165 swimmers ranging from ages 5 to 18 will compete on an individual basis, as there is no team result recorded. 51 events are scheduled including Individual Medley, Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly and Relays, all broken down according to age group for each.

All four divisions in the North Jersey Summer Swim League, which Springfield participates in, will have their own divisional championships. The top 16 swimmers in each event out of all four divisions (which consists of 20 teams and five teams in each division) will compete in the Meet of Champions in New Providence on Thursday at 8:30 a.m.

If you attend the meet, who should you keep an eye on?

"I'm hoping to see if Tavish Boyle and Tyler Kwinta can have another year like last season, where they won both the Divisional meet and the Meet of Champions in their breaststroke events. Addison Hicks is graduating this year, so we are looking forward to him swimming a few great final races and we are also expecting big things from our relay teams."
