So it came as no surprise to learn that the Springfield Patriot Chamber of Commerce had named Hecht volunteer of the year. Hecht has long been a prominent member of Springfield’s volunteer and philanthropic community. In all of his efforts, he has been quick to credit the Springfield community for their support, as his comment on a Patch article after a toy collection illustrates.

Thank you to the generous people of Springfield. We collected countless toys and helped more than 70 families and over 200 of Springfield's children received multiple new toys and games. There were hugs and tears and many stories of hardship shared. To all who contributed, thank you. To those in need, our door is open to you. Springfield HOPE will be there. Happy holidays and lets all pray for a better 2012. Dr. Gary.
