Jason's Friends Foundation Hosts Second Annual Motorcycle Ride & Car Show

When 8-year-old Jason Condit was diagnosed with cancer in 2010, he inspired the community.

The story is a parent’s worst nightmare — Jason visited the school nurse one day complaining of a stomachache. His mother picked him up from school and took him to their family physician, who ordered tests. By the next day, the tests revealed the bad news: a malignant tumor on Jason’s kidney and stage 4 cancer that had spread to his spine and bone marrow. Jason has been undergoing treatment ever since.

The Condits (who also have a daughter in college) live in Springfield and have owned the Clark Dairy Queen on Westfield Avenue for more than 20 years. 

During this most difficult time, friends of Jason’s parents reached out to lend their support and friendship.

They've been struggling under these harrowing circumstances, Carene Sangiuliano, a realtor at Century 21 JRS Realty in Clark and a close friend of the family, told Patch. The Sangiulianos and friends created Jason’s Friends Foundation, Inc. to assist children and families stricken with this devastating disease raise awareness and make funds available to assist them with their mounting medical bills.

This year Jason's Friends are once again holding a motorcycle ride and car show fundraiser. This year the event is being held at Oak Ridge Park in Clark. Check out our story, video and photos from last year's event, . 

"Because of the new location we expect to have more cars as well as more motorcycles," said George Sangiuliano. "Last year was very successful. We raised more than $10,000 for the foundation.

Sangiuliano says Jason has made great improvements over the past year and is doing well.

"Through the efforts of very dedicated committee members the Foundation has been able to expand it's opportunities and is able help other children and families effected by cancer," Sangiuliano told Patch. "We are grateful to everyone that contributes to the Foundation and its events. Those contributions are what enables us to help as many children as we can. We are looking forward to a successful event on September 23."

The show is open to all makes and models, new and old, and there will be no "classes." Gates will be open from 9 a.m. till 4 p.m. Trophies will be awarded at 2:30 p.m. For more information, contact Dennis Fiore at 908-917-4637 or dennybob41@comcast.net.

The event will include food, drinks, prizes, music, a 50/50 raffle and vendors. 

Pre-registration is $15 and $20 the day of show. Pre-registration ends Sept. 14.
