Springfield's First Aid Squad Gets Boost from Township Committee

The township's governing body and Mayor David Amlen declared May 19 - 25 as Emergency Medical Services Week.

Emergency medical personnel got a major boost at Springfield's May 14 township committee meeting last week. That was when the governing body and Mayor David Amlen celebrated their efforts and declared this week to be Emergency Medical Services Week.

"Our township relies not only upon the members of our Springfield Volunteer First Aid Squad but also upon the generosity of those residents and businesses that provide the financial support to fund EMS equipment, operations and training," the EMS Week proclamation stated in part.

"It is appropriate to recognize the value and the accomplishments of the Emergency Medical Services System."

Amlen also declared Wednesday, May 22, as Emergency Medical Services for Children Day, and so gave recognition to the accomplishments of the men and women who help children in emergency situations.

"The needs of children are different than the needs of adults" in terms of health care, the proclamation stated.

"Emergency Medical Services for Children assists in the development of training programs and guidelines for emergency care providers so that children with special health care needs receive timely, appropriate care," Amlen's proclamation said.
