Cabin Fever Game Day on Saturday

On Saturday, Florence M. Gaudineer Middle School offers students and families a chance to try out a wide array of board games

Parents always tell their kids to stop playing games and get to their schoolwork. This weekend, that's going to change: kids can play games to help make sure their schools work. This Saturday, Florence M. Gaudineer Middle School hosts Cabin Fever Game Day. Organized by the Springfield schools fundraising group the All For One Fund, Cabin Fever is a buffet of board games; families can sample fun and educational games created by Gamewright. The event is free and lasts from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A large variety of games will be offered, including popular Wrightgames titles like Slamwich, Rat-a-Tat Cat and Captain Clueless. Kids and their families can test as many games as they want for as long as they want. The games are available for sale at the…

All for One Fund Holds Second Trunk or Treat

Second year in a row for Halloween-themed school fundraiser

Halloween is fast approaching, and once again, the Springfield Public Schools' All For One Fund is hosting Trunk or Treat at Jonathan Dayton High School.  This year's event will be held on Sunday, October 31, immediately following the Springfield YMCA's Halloween craft activities & Treat Street (about 11 am) and the township's Halloween parade (about 1:30 p.m.). For $10 in advance and $15 at the door, families can take part in the Trunk or Treat, where parents decorate their cars in Halloween fashion and children go from vehicle to vehicle collecting candy. Other attractions at the event includes a "bounce house" donated by the Lion's Club of Springfield and music provided by a DJ. The parking lot will open at 11 a.m., so families can park…

Letter to the Editor: Buck a Book Fundraiser at Union Plaza Diner

Diner donating percentage of bills.

Thank you all again for your amazing support during Buck-a-Book month.  We had so many forms turned in this week that we're still counting so I don't have final school by school results yet, but I can tell you that collectively we have passed our 25,000 book/chapter goal!    To celebrate, remember that Union Plaza Diner is donating 15 percent of every check that presents the attached flyer today, Wednesday, April 7. I hope to see you all at the Diner tonight (I will be there for lunch too!!!)!  We hope to have the final count done by this evening so we can share it with everyone.   Please help spread the word! Thanks a million!! Jodi Silverstein Chair, Springfield Public Schools' All for One Fund

Letter to the Editor: Buck-a-Book Seeks Sponsors

Businesses and individuals can "adopt" classes.

The Springfield Public Schools' All For One Fund is expanding the very successful Buck-A-Book Reading Incentive Program beyond the Edward V. Walton Early Childhood Education Center to all five of the district's public schools.  As you may already know, over the last two years, our youngest students at Walton have read over 24,000 books and have raised over $25,000 for the Walton Playground Fund that helped complete Phase II of the Walton Playground last spring.   Throughout March, all Springfield students will keep track of every book that they read.  We're asking local businesses and individuals to "adopt" a class at any of the five schools and agree to donate $1.00 for every book read (up to $250) by the students that month, with all …

Trunk or Treat Fundraiser Exceeds Expectations

The first event by education fundraising group All for One was a success, and its founder is already looking to the future.

Jodi Silverstein hoped to raise about $1,250 for Springfield’s schools with the first All for One fundraising event. She ended up getting a lot more than that. “We netted $2,000,” Silverstein, the founder and driving force behind the All For One Fund said, explaining how last weekend’s Trunk or Treat show surpassed her fundraising goals. “For my first effort, if I could have brought in $250 for each of the five schools, that would have been a success for me.” The All For One Fund takes its name from its approach to dispersing fundraising proceeds. Instead of focusing on a single school, the All For One Fund divides fundraising proceeds are between the PTAs or PTOs of Springfield’s five public schools. The idea came about after Silverstein…
