'Visions Within' Continues at Springfield Library

The exhibition by artist Boltaire V. Cruz continues at the Donald B. Palmer Museum at the Springfield Free Public Library through May 1.

Aspiring artist Boltaire V. Cruz is having his first solo painting exhibition entitled Visions Within at the Donald B. Palmer Museum at the Springfield Free Public Library. The show will be displaying his collection of acrylic and oil paintings that features alluring women, who despite their beauty, embrace a lingering sadness within. These paintings represent as illustrative metaphor of his journey as an artist for the past three years. The show runs through May 1, 2013. The Donald B. Springfield Native and Rising Star Rachel Millman Takes to NYC

Local singer to perform Thursday at Gershwin Hotel.

Springfield native Rachel Millman will be performing at 9 p.m. Thursday at the Gershwin Hotel. There will be a $10 charge at the door of the hotel on E. 27th Steet. Rachel will be performing alongside her band, Traveor Coen (Bass), Joe Izzo (Drums), Brad Whiteley (Keyboards) and Walt Stacey (Guitar). Millman released an album, "Throwin' Rocks at the Moon," nearly a year ago and has been gaining acclaim among the independent-label music followers. Thursday's performance will include "Throwin' Rocks," "If I Believe," "Waiting for Someday" along with new tracks and covers of some of her favorite songs. Gallery of Armenian-Born Artist at Library's Donald B. Palmer Museum

Artist Sona Yeghiazaryan promises escape through simplicity.

Starting this week, the library is offering Springfield residents a chance to take a journey into the unknown. "Stories of Color," an exhibit of paintings by Sona Yeghiazaryan is now on display at the library's Donald B. Palmer Museum. Yeghiazaryan, an Armenian born artist Montclair State University graduate, says on her website that much of her inspiration comes from music, and that creating art is her way of "dreaming," "playing music" and more. "To me art is a journey to the unknown world," Yeghiazaryan said in a statement. "It reveals itself only to those willing to believe in the world built on the irrationality of poetic souls." She stresses that the goal of her art is connectivity and honesty. "In my art there are no secrets, only …

Press Release: Springfield Artists Take Part in Morristown Exhibit

Two Springfield residents are among the 56 artists from northern and central New Jersey who are displaying their work this month and next at the Art Upstairs Gallery in the Community Theatre, 100 South St., Morristown. The juried exhibit, "M-SHAC Is Back," is sponsored by the Millburn-Short Hills Arts Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the development of local The Springfield artists are Kat Block and Phyllis Zlatin. Their work and that of 54 other artists will be on view from July 13 through Aug. 9. The public is invited to a meet-the-artists reception from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 18. Spoon, the Bravery to Headline Union County MusicFest

The free festival will take place in Oak Ridge Park in Clark.

So it's not going to be all cover tunes for Union County after all. Alternative rock groups Spoon and The Bravery will headline the 13th annual Union County MusicFest this fall, the county's Board of Chosen Freeholders announced in a press release last week. The free weekend festival will take place at Oak Ridge Park in Clark. The two bands will be joined by singer/songwriters Jesse Malin with his band The St. Marks Social and Willie Nile, and by New Jersey native Robert Randolph and the Family Band. The Nils Lofgren Acoustic Duo will also perform. More confirmed artists will also be announced in the coming weeks. MusicFest starts Wednesday, Sept. 8 with a county fair-style carnival.
