Newark resident reportedly found with drugs and paraphernalia as well as stolen jewels.
A Newark woman was caught with crack cocaine and stolen jewelry after being interrupted during the preliminary steps of a burglary attempt, police say. According to a Springfield police department press release, Maria Circelli, 37, rang a doorbell on a Colfax Road home shortly before 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 8. A neighbor reportedly saw Circelli ring the doorbell than walk around the house into the home’s backyard. Knowing that the house’s owners were away, the neighbor confronted Circelli by the rear door of the house. Police say Circelli claimed she was lost and was looking for Morrison Road before quickly walking away. Newark man linked to 2009 deli robbery and thefts in Union.
Police have accused an alleged career burglar with a string of area burglaries and burglary attempts, including the attempted burglary of an autobody shop this month and a 2009 burglary of a Springfield deli. On Wednesday, Aug. 15 at 7:30 a.m. Dobb's Autobody employees told police that a burglar unsuccessfully tried to pry open two of the body shop’s storage sheds. In addition, they reported the burglar stole a car from the lot and used it to smash open the body shop's gate. Investigating the incident, detectives discovered a lone suspect scaled the fence and left behind a bicycle. Man charged with robbing liquor stores in Linden and Mountainside.
Springfield police have arrested a man suspected of breaking into and robbing from liquor stores in several Union County towns. According to a Springfield police report, Michael Ayler, 45, of Elizabeth and Neptune, broke into Springfield’s Stew Leonard's Wines on May 27 at 4:40 a.m. by prying open the front doors. He reportedly quickly fled in a tan four-door sedan after finding the store’s cash register drawers were open and empty. Springfield officers arrived shortly after Ayler reportedly left, responding to an alarm at the liquor store. Couple reportedly stole candy and cash.
What if Bonnie and Clyde had a sweet tooth? Police reports indicate the man and woman accused of breaking into two Springfield businesses last week were not particularly discerning about what they allegedly stole. While they pocketed cash, they also reportedly stole an item with little resale value; a candy bowl. On Thursday, May 17 at 10:13 p.m., Springfield PD Officer Melissa Esteves responded to a silent burglar alarm at Dave's Sweet Shop on Mountain Avenue. Two men allegedly broke into tool sheds, work areas and landscaping trucks.
Last week, Springfield police arrested two men wanted in connection with a multi-town tool theft spree. Police believe that since June, the two men have broken into tool sheds, construction site trailers and landscaping trucks to power tools ranging from drills and saws to lawn mowers and weed whackers. Police say that surveillance photos from crime scenes show the men driving a Penske rental van to work sites, trucks and homes, which they would load up with pilfered power tools. The men are suspected of tool crimes in Freehold, Branchburg, South Plainfield, Madison, Maplewood and Summit. Burglary committed by two white males in Nissan with New York plates.
Police are asking Springfield residents to be on the lookout for suspicious activity after a house burglary from last week. According to a police report, shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 10, a Springfield resident saw a car driving slowly near Becker Road and North and South Derby Roads. About an hour later, a South Derby Road resident returned home to find that their house had been burglarized. The rear glass sliding door had been shattered and jewelry was missing from the master bedroom. After interviews with residents, police determined that the two white male subjects in the suspicious vehicle were responsible for the house burglary. A Springfield man and a Westfield woman are arrested following a Springfield police investigation.
Following an investigation into a series of burglaries of homes in Springfield and neighboring towns occurring over the last few months, Springfield and Westfield police have arrested a Springfield man and a Westfield woman. The arrest was made in Westfield on Wednesday, Nov. 4. Springfield resident Kamil Ciesluk, 21, and Kristin Modowski, 18, of Westfield were arrested. Both were charged with four counts of residential burglary, theft and receiving stolen property according to a statement from the Springfield Police Department.
