Broken Utility Poll Crushes Car, Knocks Out Power at Troy Village

Emergency responders said no one was hurt in the incident.

Troy Village Apartment houses were without power and a car was crushed a domino-like series of events yesterday. Late in the afternoon of Tuesday, August 7, a falling tree landed on a nearby power line, which subsequently pulled down a utility poll, which in turn crashed into a parked car. While no one was hurt in the incident, Jersey Central Power & Light crews were called to the scene to repair the poll. They cut power to the nearby housing units while they worked. Springfield Auxiliary police officers stationed at the accident site said the tree fell down on its own and ascribed the break to rot. Neighbors questioned the rot as a cause, noting that the full-grown tree had been uprooted and the recent stormy weather. The owner of the …

No Injuries in Single Car Accident Near Apartment Complex

Minivan fell into steep embankment.

An automobile accident near a large Springfield housing development came close to tragedy this morning. Through a fortunate sequence of events, there were no significant injuries. Springfield fire fighters who responded to the scene said that a blue minivan unoccupied save for the driver rolled off away from the parking lot at the Lakeside by Briant Park apartment complex at approximately 10 a.m. For reasons yet to be determined, the minivan rolled into a steep embankment that drops about 20 feet into a shallow and rocky creek. Doctor Injured in Highway Crash

State Troopers and Springfield First Aid Squad respond to crash.

An old saying maintains that doctors make the worst patients. That aphorism was almost borne out this week when a surgeon was in an early morning car accident on Route 24 in Springfield. Shortly before 2 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5, members of Springfield’s First Aid Squad responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on the highway. FAS Captain Apu Mullick said they found a single patient, a doctor himself, with a severe bleed from his leg. New Jersey State police say the doctor, who has not been identified, was hurt when he drove his car into the back of a tractor trailer. The doctor diagnosed his own injuries and requested a medical helicopter bring him to the hospital. The medevac helicopter turned out to be a flawed prescription. …
