We’re continuing our annual Deck the House Contest to find the most over-the-top holiday decorations in America — the best “decked” house in the country—the one home so spectacularly decorated that everyone in town jokes your holiday decorations could rival Rockefeller Center. If this sounds like your house, upload a photo or video of your home to our contest page at http://deckthehouse.patch.com/contest/. Voting ends tomorrow at noon. A grand prize winner will be announced on Dec. 29. Only residents of Patch towns are eligible to enter. We’ll select 24 regional finalists, and from them, pick one grand prize winner. Contest money will go towards digitizing historic documents.
In April, the Springfield Library asked township residents for their support. Today, it looks like you came through. On Friday, May 11, Library Director Susan Permahos learned that the library had won the top $15,000 prize in a worldwide contest sponsored by the EMC Corporation Heritage Trust. Springfield residents were urged to voted in the contest; judging from the victory, it looks like the urging worked. Permahos was exuberant at the news. "I'm running around telling everyone," Permahos said. "I'm so excited." As Patch reported in early April, the Springfield Library was one of seven finalists in an international contest sponsored by the EMC Corporation Heritage Trust. Temple Beth Ahm Yisrael in a landslide.
Congratulations to Temple Beth Ahm Yisrael preschool for winning our reader's poll. Julie Bernstein, Director of the preschool, said that the vote illustrates the loyalty the school at the "hidden temple" instills in parents and students. "Well, we have a great school,” Bernstein said when told of the win. While Beth Ahm Yisrael garnered the most votes, they were not the only school whose praises were sung. Multiple parents chimed in with support for the Children Academy, with one Springfield parent saying that while her child was currently in the third grade, they still missed the preschool. In addition, the Springfield school district's Pre-K program at the Edward V. Walton Early Childhood Center The final tally is below.
