Springfield homes have started showing holiday spirit.

Trees are on sale and decorations are on display; with the Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony approaching on Tuesday, Dec. 7. Springfield homes have already started showing their holiday spirit.

Township Beautification Committee Is No more

Former members cry foul; Mayor says it was a necessary budgetary measure.

The Springfield Beautification Committee began in 1996 as the brainchild of Ruth Schwartz, who would act as its longtime chair. But with the recent change in municipal administration, the Beautification Committee has ceased to exist. Questions and rumors have been flying around about the group's ending. Some observers have said it was disbanded by a Republican mayor because its members were Democrats. Former members and others in town are quick to point to the group's accomplishments. Susan Permahos has been director of the Springfield Public Library for almost seventeen years. Springfield Homes Decorated for Christmas

Candy canes, cartoon characters and the shadows of angels.

Thank you to all of the families who braved walking on roofs, cleaning chimneys for Santa and decorating lawns for the 2009 Holiday Season, Springfield looks great!  Our town was up in lights this season; from Morris Ave, to Mountain Ave and even weaving through the streets by Shunpike Road with houses twinkling under the stars.  While many homes stayed traditional with white lights and lit trees, one house had a giant Homer Simpson lawn decoration and a house off of Meisel had a candy cane lined sidewalk! It was like being in the Candyland Board Game! Wishing everyone a happy and healthy Holiday Season. But most importantly, please be careful and be safe. Photos: It's Beginning To Look A Little Bit Like Christmas

This space is usually called "the dek." This time it's going to be more like a "dek the halls."

The Springfield Holiday Tree doesn't get lit until Dec. 8, but a number of township buildings have already begun displaying holiday cheer. On a recent, wet Dec. evening (imagine the raindrops are falling snow for proper seasonal effect), Springfield Patch editor Adam Bulger took some shots of official buildings in their holiday splendor.
