In message, Democrats celebrate court victory and offer updates on governmental actions.
The following information comes courtesy of the Springfield Democrats. -------------- Democrats Win Election Suit The Hon. Lisa Chrystal ruled this week that the Springfield Republicans who filed suit in Union County Court to overturn November’s election results had not proven their claim and the election will stand as is. This decision settles the three month long dispute filed by the Fernandez Krauss campaign and solidifies Margaret Bandrowski’s place on the Township Committee. “We are very pleased with the Judge’s ruling and that we can finally put this matter behind us. This is one less distraction for the members of the Township Committee. Now we can better focus our energy on the business of running the town,” said David Barnett, …

Candidates urge residents to attend Wednesday's Board of Health meeting.
The following is a message from Democratic Candidates Margaret Bandrowski and David Barnett. ----------------------- The second meeting of the newly-constituted Board of Health, comprised of the members of the Township Committee and appointees, will meet this coming Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Ken Faigenbaum Meeting room at Town Hall. Please attend! At the first meeting of the new board, Marc Krauss was appointed Chairperson. By contrast, the Chair of the previous Board of Health is a doctor with years of public health experience. Unsurprisingly, the meeting was dominated by Mr. Shehady who ran most of the discussion. Reports were given by Megan Avallone, Health Officer of the Westfield Department of Health. Springfield has been …

Margaret Bandrowski and David Barnett share stories from local community.
The following message was sent out to Springfield Democrats over the Sept. 28 weekend. ------------------------- Margaret and David have been walking the neighborhoods, ringing doorbells and meeting lots of residents. Listening to everyone's concerns is extremely important to them and, when elected, they intend on creating an atmosphere where all residents are comfortable sharing their issues with the Township Committee. One Springfield neighborhood in particular is doing some spectacular work. Residents of the area along the Rahway River, which flooded during Hurricane Irene, have united as a community to address flood related issues. Working with local, county and state government, residents and neighbors formed Water Everywhere (WE). …

Springfield notables enjoy food, wine and each other's company at connecting event.
Sandy Weinger believes it's not enough to network anymore. "For years, it was all about networking parties," Weinger said. "But everybody in a network already knows each other. You have to be a connector." In his effort to connect people, Weinger, a longtime Springfield resident and a regular at Township Committee meetings, has organized connecting events. His most recent, held on Sept. 20 at Echoqua in Echo Plaza off Mountain ave., was the fourth connecting event he had put on. A sizable group gathered at the back of the restaurant to enjoy food provided by Echoqua and wine from Stew Leonard's. The Democratic candidates for Township Committee, David Amlen and Richard Huber attended, along with former Committee member and current …

Low turnout favored incumbents.
The numbers were low and in favor of incumbents in yesterday's primary election, both in Springfield and across the county. The sheriff primary was one of the most competitive in a low key primary election featuring a competitive Republican primary for Congress and Democratic primaries for county wide offices. In the sheriff's race, Mitchell, an Essex County sheriff's officer from Roselle, garnered 103 votes in Springfield compared to 174 votes for Froehlich, who is seeking his 12th term in office. Countywide, Froehlich, the longest serving county sheriff in state history, defeated Mitchell by a margin of 52-percent to 47-percent, or 1,015 votes. Mitchell ran on a slate of insurgent Democrats opposed to the candidates endorsed by the …

Worried Citizens Bemoan "Broken" Politics in Washington
Despite 30-mile-an-hour winds and heavy rain, a handful of concerned citizens showed up at 10 a.m. to fix America. In two hours of lively, wide-ranging and well-informed discussion at Panera Bread, they expressed misgivings about how they see corporations and lobbyists influencing legislation, America's dependence on foreign oil, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, abuse of the environment, lack of health care reform, and avoidance of financial services regulation. Dysfunctional Congress, Both Parties at Fault Everyone agreed that Congress, both Republicans and Democrats, has failed repeatedly to address such issues effectively. That's why they braved bad weather to see if the recently formed Coffee Party USA will give voice to Americans who…
