Police: Drunk Limo Driver Repeatedly Spit At Cops

Actions following arrest for wreck on route 22 resulted in aggravated assault and other charges.

Springfield police say Carlos  A. Grandayanayaco spent the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 25 first mowing down traffic signs and streetlights, then fighting with and spitting at the cops who stopped him. Reportedly, the 23-year-old Newark resident and car service limo driver attempted to steer a Lincoln Town car on to Rte. 22 from Hillside Ave. at 1:30 a.m. Police say he didn't make it on to the road, but instead drove over the median island on Route 22 without breaking, clearing a traffic sign and sideswiping a telephone pole before coming to stop when he hit a second telephone pole. Springfield Police Sergeant Michael McNany reportedly witnessed the single-car accident. Grandayanayaco, who was determined to be drunk, was not injured…

Police: Woman Passes Out During Traffic Stop

Springfield police department investigates odd accident.

They catch themselves losing control, pull over and re-assess the situation. Maybe they get a coffee, maybe they call a cab or maybe they get a hotel. Whatever. A recent arrest by Springfield's police illustrates one near-worst case scenario possible for this situation; falling asleep at the wheel while a cop is watching. At around 8:45 p.m. on May 14, Springfield police officer Louis Brito stopped a motor vehicle that was driven without headlights. According to a police report, the lights were off because the car had sustained such heavy damage in the front that the lights couldn't work. Also …

Flat, Drunk and Busted

A disabled vehicle leads to a DWI arrest.

You shouldn't drive drunk. But if you do, applying some common sense can keep you out of a lot of trouble;  check your mirrors, make sure the parking brakes on, etc. It should really go without saying that you should be sure your tires are inflated, as the alleged actions of David Jong demonstrate. According to a Springfield police report, officers stopped the 34-year-old Short Hills resident near the intersection of Meisel and Owaissa Avenues at 2 a.m. on Saturday, April 24. He was charged with driving while intoxicated. The booze police say what he drank probably puffed up his confidence in his ability to drive. Sadly, it did not have the same effect on his tires, which were reportedly not only deflated, but "shredded" from being driven …
