Township boy cuts his hair in tribute to his favorite animal.
Leapin' lizard locks! If any salons are interested in copying this cut, we'd strongly urge it to be called the "art gecko." James, 12-year-old Gaudineer student, decided to pay tribute to his favorite pet, the gecko, with his latest haircut.

Rain Drops And Clouds Greet Teachers, Parents And Students On First Day Of School
Springfield's school year started out wet, with teachers, parents and students donning rain gear and umbrellas as sporadic showers greeted as they walked to school doors. Excitement and mixed emotions were in the ionized air as elementary and middle schools accepted their students into new surroundings and classrooms. Familiar yellow school buses again plied their trade up and down streets before depositing their precious cargo at the appointed school. In the annual back-to-school ballet, Springfield’s finest moved traffic along and veteran parents aided the flow by keeping things moving, albeit slowly. Township Crossing Guards with bright vests were at their posts too, seeing that children were safely guided across busy streets. Do …
Scenic shots from our beloved town!
I recently constructed a project for the town, taking pictures and video of our beloved neighborhood for a tourist video that will be featured on the municipal site. I think these photos really show the natural beauty of this paradise, 30 miles west of New York City.
Just before the outdoor screening of "The Muppet Movie," kids have some interactive fun.
In conjunction with the Union County Freeholders, at an outdoor evening screening of "The Muppets Movie," kids create their own hand puppets, with a little help from their family and County friends.
The youth baseball team makes states for second time in two years.
The 10U Springfield Minutemen Baseball team made it back to the Cal Ripken tournament. This year the Tournament, which kicks off on July 16, is held in South Brunswick. Eight teams will compete. In 2009 this same team at the 9U level lost in the Semi- Final game of the State Tournament. The winner of the State Tournament will move onto the 2010 Regional Championship in North Tonawanda, NY (Just south of Niagara Falls). This is the first team in Springfield history to make it to the States twice and look forward to the challenge ahead as they play the best teams in NJ in the next couple weeks. The live educational animal show the Lizard Guys, brought some scaly and slithery friends to the Springfield Public Library.
On June 30, Enzo Cristantiello of the Lizard Guys brought some of his green friends to the library to teach youngsters the joys of the reptile world. Cristantiello's entourage included a lizard, a giant turtle (may have been the original Maryland terp) a few snakes and even scorpions (who never made it out; they are very self conscious about their weight). Enzo even tamed the wildest animals in the building, the children. All of the Lizard Guys' shows are unscripted, and include a healthy dose of humor and class.
The library hosts an event that combines children, stories and stretching.
The Springfield Public Library has more than just books; they have a jungle with live animals! No, not really, but it's possible to hear animal noises coming from inside. Tomorrow, Storytime Yoga, taught by friends from Powerflow Kids in Chatham, takes over the library museum twice a month with their fantastic program. This interactive thirty minute class encourages parents and guardians to join their youngster in storytime which incorporates beginner yoga movement. Leader Jen Haire takes children ages 2-5 through three to five stories, then asks kids to imitate animal poses and noises, play games and sing songs. This basic intro to yoga teaches children breathing techniques and creative relaxation. Studio Manager and Yoga Instructor …

In anticipation of this weekend's snowfall, here's a guide to the best places around for kids to slip down slopes.
Besides making more trips to the gym this year, and trying out Sofia's, the new Italian restaurant on Morris Ave., one of my goals this year is to embrace the present. For winter, that means dealing with the cold and making the best of it. And that means sledding! Ok, so only one of the three kids actually like it, but what is a family without the challenges of differing ages and conflicting opinions? My absolute favorite place to go sledding is Echo Lake (Mountainside) off Mill Road. Why? Too Steep? Try Briant Park in nearby Summit bordering Springfield. One mom told me she prefers this with her little ones. I've talked about Bryant Park in my Bundle up and Walk post, earlier. Need a Bigger Hill? South Mountain is steeper, and if you…

Actually, Briant part is part in Summit and part in Springfield, as mentioned here: http://home.att.net/~briantpark/ and easily confirmed on Zillow (best site I know for seeing town borders). Although I do believe the place where kids sled is in Summit.   more ›

I took my three children (ages 8, 6, 4) today and we really enjoyed it! The middle child does "simple" yoga at Walton and loved the chance to "show off" for us. My oldest even eventually joined in!   more ›
