Springfield Dems: Committee Takes Actions on Flood Remediation

Volunteer Springfield Flood Mitigation Committee formed to work with Environmental Commission.

The following update was posted on the Springfield Democrats' website.  ------------------- The 2013 Township Committee got right to work this past week taking up the matter of flood mitigation in Springfield. Flooding during Hurricane Irene and previous storms have left Springfield residents with major damage to their homes and belongings. In an effort to reduce the damage caused by future storms, Committeewoman Margaret Bandrowski introduced a resolution to create the Springfield Flood Mitigation Committee. The resolution was seconded by David Barnett. This important committee, made up of resident volunteers, will work at a local, county and state level to bring best practices in development and land use to Springfield. The resolution …

Opinion: Civics 101

Committee member Bandrowski responds to fellow official Ziad Shehady's criticism of professional contracts.

At Springfield's Township Committee re-organization meeting on Jan. 1, Committeeman Ziad Shehady caused a bit of a stir by claiming irregularities involving the approval of several resolutions authorizing the awarding of contracts to six professionals to be employed by the township in 2013. Mr. Shehady voted against the resolutions, claiming no one had seen the actual contracts nor was there a COAF (Certificate of Available Funds) to cover the costs. This last, in fact, has been issued and was irrelevant to the resolutions themselves. A review of the documents may clear up any questions. The form of the resolution is the same for each position and clearly states its purpose is to authorize the drawing up of a contract between the Township …

Democratic Committee Candidates Tout Committee Efforts in New Message

Margaret Bandrowski and David Barnett share stories from local community.

The following message was sent out to Springfield Democrats over the Sept. 28 weekend. ------------------------- Margaret and David have been walking the neighborhoods, ringing doorbells and meeting lots of residents. Listening to everyone's concerns is extremely important to them and, when elected, they intend on creating an atmosphere where all residents are comfortable sharing their issues with the Township Committee.  One Springfield neighborhood in particular is doing some spectacular work. Residents of the area along the Rahway River, which flooded during Hurricane Irene, have united as a community to address flood related issues. Working with local, county and state government, residents and neighbors formed Water Everywhere (WE).  …

Voting for Margaret Bandrowski and David Barnett will allow the democrats to take control of the town council and get us the proper health coverage as the current administration being dominated by the republicans is about to fire the Westfield health department and hire Madison who in my opinion offers less service for a lessor cost. Keeping Springfields citizens healthy is very important to me …   more ›
