Police Arrest Summit Teen in Strong Arm Robbery

Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that decision.

Summit Police have arrested Ronald A. Perry, II, 18, of Summit and an unnamed teen from Irvington in the alleged robbery of a pair of teens on Union Place on May 4th. Police are still searching for a third suspect in the robbery.   Here are the details of a Summit Police press release sent out this afternoon:  At approximately 11:15 p.m. on May 4th, the Summit Police Department took a report from a 15-year- old male who stated that he and his friend, also a 15-year-old male, had both been the victims of a strong-arm robbery earlier that evening. He stated that he and his friend were walking on Union Place in the vicinity of Starbucks when they were approached by three males who blocked their path and demanded their cell phones and wallets…

Armed Robber Strikes Gas Station

Morris Ave. BP taken for cash, lottery tickets and cigars.

Shortly after midnight on Monday, March 19, an armed man robbed the BP gas station on Morris Ave. near the Union border. Springfield police say the man pointed a black semi-automatic pistol at an attendant shortly after the attendant finished gassing up a car. The gunman demanded that the attendant hand over all the money he had on him and then led him at gunpoint to the station’s convenience store area. The robber demanded that the employee working behind the counter give him the money from the register. In addition to the cash, the suspect also reportedly stole lottery tickets and several cigars before fleeing from the store on foot. He was last seen running south on Meisel. Springfield Police Connect Irvington Man to June Gas Station Robbery

Man is accused of gas station hold-ups throughout Essex and Union county.

Springfield Police have charged and arrested the man they believe committed the armed robbery at gunpoint of an attendant at the BP gas station on Morris Avenue on June 27. Leonard Crosby, 46, of Irvington, was initially arrested by Irvington Police and charged with committing a string of armed robberies of gas stations in Irvington and  a series of similar robberies throughout Essex and Union counties. Crosby, currently incarcerated in the Essex County Jail, was identified as the man who robbed the BP station in Springfield. He was charged with Armed Robbery, Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose and Terroristic Threats and arrested by Detective Keith Doherty on July 8. Armed Robbery at Springfield Gas Station

Judging from the police report, the gas station attendant didn’t even have to time to ask “cash or credit” before the driver drew his gun. Police say that at 8:41 p.m. on Monday, June 27, a white 4-door Jeep Cherokee pulled into the BP gas station at the intersection of Morris Avenue and Meisel Avenue and parked by the pumps. When the gas station attendant removed the car’s gas cap, the driver stuck a handgun in his stomach and told him to give him all his money. Police: Woman Robbed at Gunpoint in Springfield Hotel Room

Robber reportedly posed as room service, tied victim with duct tape.

More details have emerged about last Sunday's report of an armed robbery at a Springfield hotel. Springfield police say a woman staying at Springfield’s Hotel 304 West was robbed in her room at gunpoint and bound with duct tape by a man posing as a room service attendant. Police say that shortly before 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, a 5’10” black male wearing a red hooded sweatshirt knocked on a female hotel guest’s door, claiming to be from room service. The a 30-year-old Monmouth Beach resident opened the door, and was pushed to the ground. The man brandished a handgun and bound the woman with duct tape before making off with what police describe as a “large sum” of money. Attack at Springfield Motel Lands Man in Hospital

Three men assault Rutherford man staying at Springfield motel.

A man staying at a Springfield hotel received multiple stab wounds in what Township police suspect was a drug deal gone awry. The 31-year-old Rutherford resident had reportedly been staying at the Colonial Motel on Route 22 for three weeks when three men accosted him outside of his hotel room on April 20. The man reportedly told police that while he was stepping out of the room to “catch some air,” three men, including one armed with a handgun, pushed him back through his motel room door. Once inside the room, the three men reportedly attacked the victim with quick brutality. Police Suspect Link Between Springfield and Belleville Robberies

Armed robbery committed hour and a half after violent Springfield incident.

Springfield and Belleville police are investigating whether the same culprits committed robberies in the two towns. Shortly after 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 6, two armed men robbed the South Springfield Ave. convenience store Krauser's. The men, described as black men wearing ski masks, made off with cash and lottery tickets after pistol-whipping two clerks. The men were believed to have driven out of Springfield on route 22. Approximately 90 minutes later, two men in ski masks and carrying pistols entered a Bellevilke liquor store, stole wallets, and emptied the store's safe and two cash registers of about $3,000 in cash. Violent Robbery at Krauser's

Police seek suspects after robbery of South Springfield Ave Store on Monday night.

Springfield police are seeking two suspects following an armed robbery at a convenience store that sent an employee to the hospital. Shortly after 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 6, two black men armed with handguns and wearing ski masks entered the South Springfield Ave. convenience store. Police say the first man hopped the counter and pistol-whipped a 25-year-old clerk. The second robber pistol-whipped a 36-year-old employee before forcing that employee to open the cash register. Man Pleads Guilty to Robbing Springfield Bank

When arrested in January, robber faced down police in seven-hour standoff in West New York.

Philip A. Tatis, 44, a Colombian citizen residing in West New York, NJ, has pled guilty in Federal Court to robbing a Springfield Investor's Saving Bank in March, 2009. Court documents say Tatis walked into the Morris Ave. bank on March 2, 2009, during a major snowfall.  He approached a bank teller with a note he had kidnapped a bank customer. The note said that if the teller did not hand over $30,000 in less than two minutes, Tatis's partner would shoot the customer. The teller complied with the note and Tatis fled the bank with the money. In reality, Tatis did not have a partner and had not taken a hostage. Post Office Employee Charged With Stealing Mail

Woman accused of stealing greeting cards searching for money.

Never got that Christmas card from your aunt who likes to slip in a $20? Springfield police and other law enforcement officials think they know why.  A letter carrier for the Springfield Post Office is accused of habitually stealing and tearing through greeting cards in search of money. After several complaints from Springfield residents about lost mail, the U.S. Postal Inspectors had begun an investigation.  Residents said they were missing mail or that mail left for pick up by a letter carrier never arrived at the intended destination.  All of the non-received and stolen mail was greeting cards. Police say many of the greeting cards contained either money or personal checks. Most of the people complaining to the post office were …
